Consider this entry as a trailer for all the Olivia de Havilland stories, autographs, memorabilia, books, co-star, and related signatures that I have in my collection.  For now, the focus is not on GWTW or her two Oscar winning movies, but rather on “Lady in a Cage”.  It’s one of my favorites after “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” opened the door for the 60’s cash-cow of putting classic Hollywood female stars into contemporary Grand Guignol.  TREASURES!

Olivia was such a gracious TTM signer. The only problem I had as a teenager was pulling together the enormous (Ha!) cost of assembling and sending a package and including cash for return postage to Olivia’s address in Paris.  Shown here is the first response and original envelope with small photo that she sent in the late 80’s.  Then I sent her a package of photos to sign and waited for an eternity, absolutely certain that I’d lost my photos and my cash and would never hear from her.  But wait!  Olivia turned out to be quite accommodating, signing everything I sent and including a note of apology.  Classy.

ANN SOTHERN AUTOGRAPHS

Ann Sothern played a slatternly drunk in “Lady in a Cage” and I loved her character right away.  I had no idea that she had been a glamour girl in her younger days, during my first watch of the film.  But subsequent purchases of large collections netted me some great autographs of her, for which I’m very grateful – because she was truly lovely!

Yes, I’ll be back with the 60’s horror films of Debbie Reynolds, Shelley Winters, Miriam Hopkins (yep – “Hollywood Horror House”), Geraldine Page, Stanwyck, Bankhead, and of course the Queens who started it all – Davis & Crawford
