TALENT COMPETITION SHOW PATH TO FAME
What do Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, Beyonce, Connie Francis, Britney Spears, Dave Chapelle, and Carrie Underwood all have in common? They all were “discovered” or led to their pathway of fame by being on nationally broadcasted talent competent shows. And yes, there’s a lot, so I’ll be adding them to this page!
JENNIFER HUDSON AUTOGRAPH
“Dreamgirls” opens 2006 at the AMC Metreon in San Francisco (one of 3 theaters nationwide showing the pre-release prior to the film’s official launch). I saw, I loved it, I got the free promotional materials that they gave everyone. (A fantastic multi-page program and “Meet the Dreams” refrigerator magnets modeled on “The Supremes A’ Go—Go” 1966 LP)
What didn’t I do??? GET JENNIFER HUDSON’S AUTOGRAPH! She was nearby for a press conference, and I heard fans were getting her to sign the promo materials. I think I may not have been interested because of possible crowds, no autograph guarantee, a later appointment or whatever. But I missed out.
Instead, I was lucky enough to buy a collection in January of 2021 that included these two authentic Jennifer Hudson autographs. For $1.50 each. Okaaaaay
Beyonce may have the most coinz, by Jennifer is an EGOT. If only I had an inkling in 2006!

FIFTH HARMONY AUTOGRAPH
Fifth Harmony placed 3rd in the “X Factor USA” in 2012. It greased their wheels to fame and hit records and notably launched the solo career of Camila Cabello. Fifth Harmony was a surprise guest that sang “Worth It” with Taylor Swift at the Levi Arena concert August 14, 2015. I was bummed when I missed it, cuz I love that song. But I was there the next night in great seats to see Taylor. (More on her separately) Little Mix was the surprise guest that night and sang “Black Magic” with her onstage. THAT was awesome! Plus, Taylor had Shawn Mendes for the opening act AND special appearances by Julia Robert and Joan Baez (both to be covered separately; Joan I’ve met in person). Taylor with her keen eye for “special guests” knows how to appeal to her base, their parents, their grandparents and of course, the gays. But I digress …
This 10x8 autograph of the entire group is rare, because most of their group signatures were signed by somebody other than the girls. However, this shot comes from an in-person meet & greet – and it’s when Camila’s signature was a little nicer than now. When I saw it listed on eBay for $40 bucks – BUY IT NOW
This song wasn't Camila’s biggest hit - it reached #12 Pop, #10 Dance, #13 UK but it's a #1 to me for being filmed as a Black and White movie, the silent film title cards and Camila brandishing a sword!
