CANDY COATED BLONDE ALBUM COVERS

There are times (like some Gen Z vinyl shoppers) that I will buy a record based solely on the cover; not knowing the music at all. Candy Johnson and this crazy-fun arms-up pose was a perfect example!

After watching "Muscle Beach Party" to see Frankie and Annette cavort with classic bodybuilders Peter Lupus (Rock Stevens), Larry Scott and Dan Hagerty (yep!). It's colorful, campy and good-bad. And Candy Johnson doing the shimmy is a standout!

CANDY JOHNSON -

Beach Party mashup to Wipeout – so good!

And Candy in the Beach Party end credits. Is that just caffeine? You see now why I bought the LP? Oh, and how is the record, you ask? It's got a great cover. And Candy was a dancer. Do the math.

CYNTHIA MADDOX

Shuffling through records at the thrift store. $1.50 each and a bunch of junk, old musicals, opera, Robert Goulet and scratched up gritta. And then BAM! One of those instrumental LP's by an artist you don't know. An LP that you'd find in your grandparent's box of records. I may not know David Carroll or care about instrumentals, but the blonde on the cover in this shrink-wrapped record looked like she was "somebody". She just looked too good.  I KNEW she had to be a known mode. Sure enough, my research found that the model, Cynthia Maddox, was on the cover of Playboy 5 times! I've got a good eye

COLLECTOR ALERT: The Candy Johnson Show LP's are so hard to find. Expect to pay $100 plus. NONE are for sale right now on eBay or Discogs. Her 45's go for ~ $30 each. But you can get Cynthia, even in shrink-wrap for less than $20.
