Rock and Roll Pioneers

The documentary “I Am Everything” on Little Richard is phenomenal.  He was Prince BEFOR there was Prince.  Find it – even if this link (with Spanish subtitles) is broken.  It is one of the best documentaries!

Let’s be clear about his songs – they are NAUGHTY …

"Good Golly Miss Molly – sure like to ball "

Other lyrics of Richard's included "Tutti Frutti, good booty" (they were the ORIGINAL lyrics) and he also wrote lines like "If it's tight, it's all right" and "If it's greasy, it makes it easy”. Subtle? Hell no. IN YO FACE!

JERRY LEE LEWIS - Seven wives including his 13 year old cousin and a 16 year old. How did that even fly? "Great Balls of Fire" indeed.

BILL HALEY - "Rock Around the Clock" was #1, but I was surprised that he had 15 more songs in the Top 40

CARL PERKINS - "Blue Suede Shoes" - #2 Pop, #1 Country in 1956

FATS DOMINO - What a sweet guy; great with fans and answering autograph requests. I think he was under-appreciated and suffered from too many hard knocks. Discrimination, white artists covering his music and making them bigger hits, Hurricane Katrina destroying his home, etc.. Just a lot.
