A fantastic classic shot, from one of Hitchcock’s best, signed by three stars of “Psycho”. Rarely do I send autographs through the mail for multiple signatures because you run the risk of losing an already signed piece. Especially when you’re writing to a tough signer, like John Gavin.
It was 2014 and had this photo signed by Janet Leigh from writing to her years ago. I knew that Vera Miles, always an accommodating signer, would not to be a risk so I sent the photo to her on June 23, 2014, and it came back signed a week later on June 30th.
Then I wrote to Constance Towers (the wife of John Gavin) and along with a truly exuberant letter, since I had just seen and loved “The Naked Kiss”, I sent her some photos to autograph along with a check for charity and a special request. Could she please ask Ambassador Gavin to sign the “Psycho” photo for a truly sincere (non-selling) autograph collector? She made it happen! Thank you to the gracious and wonderful Constance Towers.
More autographs and stories on Vera Miles, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, and Constance Towers under their own separate pages.
In the meantime, here are some great autographs of Janet Leigh’s body double, Marli Renfro and Martin Balsam, “Mother’s” victim that falls backwards down the stairs in this classic shot.
It is Marli’s stomach and body we saw in the classic "Psycho" shower scene. There’s a very interesting book called “The Girl in Hitchcock’s Shower” which has Marli on the cover – but it’s a bit disjointed and kind of creepy. It ties in the author’s fascination with Marli in her skimpy modeling days but veers all over the place with “Psycho” tie-ins, why Marli was “missing” and a rape/murder that really wasn’t related. It’s a bit of a head scratcher.
