How can you not love Ed Wynn in “Mary Poppins”?!?!  The “Love to Laugh” sequence is iconic and still funny and cute.  His voice is immortalized as The Mad Hatter in Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland”, he was unforgettable with Jerry Lewis in “Cinderfella” and showed us his serious side in his Best Supporting Actor nominated role in the “The Diary of Anne Frank”. 

But mostly I love his ahead-of-the-times commentary on his bisexual son (Keenan Wynn)’s relationship with his wife, Evie, AND with closeted gay movie star (Van Johnson) 

“Evie loves Keenan. Keenan loves Evie. Van loves Evie. Evie loves Van. Van loves Keenan. Keenan loves Van.” 

He was a Freemason, but apparently also a believer of “free love”
