Young, Robert

Robert Young was famous on TV in the 70’s with “Marcus Welby” and in the 50’s with “Father Knows Best”.  I rarely watched the former when I was kid and have absolutely never seen the latter.  But I DID see him in the “The Bride Wore Red” and other films with Joan Crawford; but I was watching for her. Robert was just a basic, kinda charming and harmless quasi-leading man IMO. But I’ve got a lot of his memorabilia in my collection.  He was a handsome American “everyman” and so a lot of people could relate to him.  I think he looks great in this 1936 still that I have signed by him.  And also some of the fan photos that the studios sent out on his behalf are generally palatable, but they don’t scream “movie star”.

Elena Verdugo was Robert’s reliable co-star on “Marcus Welby”.  But being pulled by Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolfman in “House of Frankenstein” is much campier and fun!
