Iacocca, Lee
Yes, I even have business titans in my collection.
Thank you, Mr. Iacocca, for the 1965 Mustang. It was made in the year I was born and loved by almost all car fanatics. My grandmother had a yellow 1965 mustang with a black vinyl top and she was pisssssssed when my grandfather traded it in and got her … a Pinto (what?!?!) in its place.
And I remember when everybody who owned a Pinto was freaked out that they might explode if they got rear-ended. Don’t get rear ended in a car named after a bean.
My dad had a blue Chrysler 300 convertible, and I loved that car as a kid because of two things: I could fit in retractable convertible storage area in the back of the car when the roof was up. And we would go to drive-ins as a family and being in the Chrysler provided multiple windows to multiple screens that were possibly showing R rated movies. The darting eyes of a child landing on violence or nudity. One bad thing though: because it was a convertible, it always smelled a bit musty because of water seepage. I think my dad didn’t want to hear about that.
Finally, watching Martha Reeves and the Vandellas dance and sing around the 1965 Mustangs in the factory’s assembly line as they’re being built in the “Nowhere to Run” video is priceless! Check it out on YouTube:
P.S. My grandfather ultimately felt bad and bought my grandmother a cream colored Cadilla to replace the Pinto.
