HAROLD LLOYD ++

People know Harold Lloyd as the silent comedian with the glasses that was hanging from a clock on the side of a building.  He was actually soooo much more than that!  A freemason, one of the first actors to own copyright and control of his films, a photographer with books of photos (including nudes) taken in 3-D and most importantly (to me) the owner of a fabulous estate called Greenacres.

Greenacres was absolutely stunning, and it was used in many movies and TV shows - my favorite being “Death at Love House”. This 1976 TV-movie is forever stuck in my mind with the memories of Robert Wagner, falling in love with the previous owner of the house, silent movie goddess, Lorna Love. The scenes of Marianna Hill in film flashbacks, dead in her glass coffin and later near the end of the movie (no spoiler) may not have aged well, but they are BURNED in my brain as classic.

MARIANNA HILL was an autograph that I've wanted forever, but I could never find one that had her full name and/or seemed authentic. My buddy Michael Augustine-Reed came through (as he always does) and sent me this photo signed (first name only) by Marianna. I think it's from a private signing in Europe. Regardless, check her out as Lorna Love in the "Death at Love House" trailer ...

KATE JACKSON co-starred in this TV-movie with Robert Wagner. Yes, legendary as Sabrina in "Charlie's Angels" - but I so badly wanted to meet her because of "Death at Love House" and "Dark Shadows". In June of 2025, she appeared at the Hollywood Show at the Burbank Marriott. I had met all the celebrities I wanted to meet on the day before and the only person I had left to get was Kate Jackson. She was supposed to be there starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday so I got down there at 11:00 and thought "Oh this is great there's no line." But then I found out that they had given out Post-It notes to wait for her while she did photo ops and a panel.  I tracked down the lady who knew about the Post-It notes and she said I think the last number was 64 so I will give you 65. On a yellow Post-It.

And then she said, "But there are people with blue Post-Its who get in before the yellows". YO! WTF? I don't do lines. (You, hush now!)

But there I was, waiting in line with other people FOR 8 HOURS. I made some new friends and got to know the ULTIMATE con-attendee, autograph collector and ray-of-sunshine Dr. Robert and the "Charlie's Angels" bible-thumper, handsome Curtis J. Plus I was able to have people hold my place in line while I met Bolo Yeung, Stephen Pearcy and Mimi Rogers. Never waste an opportunity!

When Kate Jackson returned from her photo ops and panel the line had kept growing (when the people with the blue Post-Its wandered over) until the line as ultimately out the door and time was running out. I had to leave at 5:45 in order to get to another venue to see LaToya Jackson. (more on her separately)

I finally got in to see Kate Jackson right before 6:00 in her curtained-private area sitting behind a high round table and behind a stanchion (DON'T TOUCH THE ANGEL) I chatted with her very briefly about how I would come home after school and watch Daphne as I had her sign the "Dark Shadows" picture, and then I said "This is my favorite movie that you've ever done" and handed her the picture from "Death at Love House". She raised an eyebrow but say anything - so I asked her to inscribe it with "Lorna Love WAS alive!" And she DID! I closed out by saying my family was a big fan of watching "The Rookies" and when "Charlie's Angels" was originally released "we knew that the show was built around you". She liked that comment. Just ask the Angel's bible-thumpers. She signed a nice 8x10 and "Sabrina" (more on all the other Angel's separately). Kate had a mask on the entire time, which was not a crowd pleaser for those that paid for a photo op. She was polite, brisk and took her time with nice signatures. Just as you'd expect from "Sabrina".

HAROLD LLOYD JR. - I have this LP of his in my record collection but didn't know anything about him. The internet told me that Junior was gay, liked his men rough and his drink strong. His dad was understanding (to a point) but Junior did not have a very happy life. His first (of only 2) starring roles was in "The Flaming Urge". I mean... c'mon ... you just can't make this shit up! About 10 minutes in - you'll hear about Junior and his gay struggle, tabloid exposure, sexual conversion therapy, public indecency arrest etc. The 5 minutes about Junior are either eye-opening or scurrilous - decide for yourself.

Finally, I've got MARIE MOSQUINI - As part of the Hal Roach company of talent, Marie Mosquini was a frequent costar with (or player in) over 40 pictures with Harold Lloyd.  I had bought the autograph years ago, simply because I liked the signature itself. I had no idea who she was or that she was connected to Harold Lloyd. Classic case of Six Degrees of Separation when you're a scattered collector like me.
