Currently watching “Feud – Capote vs. The Swans” and we need to talk about Demi Moore! First off; amazeballs. She has done an incredible job of remaining fantastic without (too much) plastic. But the fact that she is playing Ann Woodward is such a frickin’ bonus for me!!
Let me segue to Ann Woodward for a minute. Obsessed. “This Crazy Thing Called Love – The Golden World and Fatal Marriage of Ann and Billy Woodward” has been one of my top 5 favorite books forever. It is so much more layered and delicious than you can possibly imagine. The social climbing, the parties, the money, their troubled marriage, his questionable death by shooting, the investigation, the connections of the rich, her final decisions. This was a woman who had her husband get Salvador Dali to paint a “society portrait” of her. Dali wanted the money but disliked the woman and the portrait was purposefully unflattering. She hated it. Dali had to sue to get paid. I mean … the tidbits.
“Feud” gives us a small glimpse into Ann Woodward, and Demi Moore gives us some good scenes (while not exactly looking like Ann, because Demi is prettier). But you MUST read the book to fully understand the depth and details of money, murder and high society that so intrigued not only Truman Capote to write “La Cote Basque” (later in “Answered Prayers”) which supposedly instigated Ann Woodward’s suicide – but also inspired Dominick Dunne to write “what he knew” in the roman a clef based on Ann Woodward and her mother-in-law in “The Two Mrs. Grenvilles” (played by Ann-Margret and Claudette Colbert in the TV movie). I mean the connections and my interest in all involved is just too much – and I’ve got stories about all the aforementioned.
Back to Demi Moore. Other than “I’ll have what she’s having” regarding her appearance, I can only say that I’ve always really liked Demi Moore. I don’t believe she’s ever given REALLY given us negativity, nastiness, or trash talk. Yeah, she’s been accused of being a diva, wanting more money, occasionally overdoing the drugs or alcohol, dieting, enhancing her looks to stay younger looking, being competitive and marrying and wanting only younger men. Sounds like typical gay man behavior to me. So big whoop.
Bottom line is that she’s never done anything in real-life or on film that I hated. (Full disclosure: I did avoid “The Scarlet Letter”) The boobs in “Striptease”? Fine by me and why shouldn’t she have a “Showgirls” in such a long and storied career? Shaved head in “G.I. Jane”? Loved it. “The Juror”? Why everybody gotta be so judgey??? It wasn’t that bad. “Charlies Angel’s: Full Throttle” comeback? Anybody who dissed that is just downright jelly of that body.
Alright, you got the gist. Demi gets the lovefest treatment from me.
Authenticating her autograph though. Face palm emoji. Demi is notoriously unresponsive to autograph requests – and rarely grants them in person or through the mail. She’s been that way for years. However, because the way she writes is basically printing, not cursive, her signature is easily forged. Most autographs of her on the market are all upper case. There are discussions that if the D and R are lower case and the autograph looks like “demi Moone”, that it is most likely authentic. The problem with this theory is that it is just as easy to forge lower case printing and upper-case printing. AND it is possible that earlier on in her career and/or sometimes in general, that she DOES write in all upper case.
In any case (ha-ha) look at the Demi Moore autographs in my collection. The only one that I’m “fairly” confident about is the book signature when pre-signed copies came with a ticket purchase to see her in discussion at San Francisco’s The Nourse Theater in 2019. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend and do my usual scoping of the scene, asking questions of authenticity, trying to meet her, etc. but I think it’s real. Only “demi Moone” knows for sure.
Looping back to Ann Woodward. Nancy Sinatra’s remix of “Shot You Down” always makes me think of the Ann Woodward story. Yes, specifically this version of “Bang Bang” because of the “shot me” repeat on loop. (I never said I wasn’t a bit twisted.)
