During my late childhood years and teens, I lived in a mild suburb outside of San Francisco and my life revolved around a steady stream of middle-class normalcies. Since I was addicted to pop and AM staples, it wasn’t until the late 80’s that I really became aware of Rap/Hip-Hop. And to me, Queen Latifah and LL Cool J were the first Queen and King of Rap.
Queen Latifah – "We" always knew she was part of the LGBQT community, and I was glad she was finally able to come out. The Queen was fantastic in "Chicago" and I really enjoyed "Bessie" Smith movie.
Best song lyric: "Easy love is something that I ain’t. Besides - I don’t know you from a can of paint! "
LL Cool J – Ladies Love Cool James – I met him in person on March 11, 1994 when Mary Wilson was getting a star on the Walk of Fame LL is very handsome, one of those celebrities that looks even better in person! With those amazing dimples, and friendly demeanor, he came over with a smile when I called out to him for an autograph.
Check out LL's take on a Disney classic:
My fave LL Cool J song and best lyric delivery ... "I don't think so"
P.S. Note the contrast of his first promo shots where he was hairy on his chest and belly before the smooth chest craze hit.
