“Valley Girl" dominated the airwaves and filled record bins in 1982. Fer sure.
It was Moon Unit's (Moon's) only release. And it's clear that she wants/wanted it that way. Who knew the joke was going to be such a HUGE hit?!?! Maybe Moon and Frank did.
Personally, I was super late to the Zappa game in general. It wasn't until 2020ish that I began to listen to Frank Zappa's records and laugh out loud at his biting social commentary.
As a person who has always been a pop-music and chart-loving freak, I was confounded as to how I've missed out on the Zappa for so long! Then I realized, he doesn't have a ton of "pop" hits, but that's the point. He's funny as hell, creative, varied and seems to have never given an eff about commercial success. And he was able to release voluminous amounts of material. I've just barely scratched the surface - so I'm sure I'll return to Mr. Z.
In the meantime, I have to tell you that when I first heard this song of his, I was DYING. I know it's totally inappropriate and anti-woke. But much of his stuff is. Please send all complaints, dislikes and hate mail via USPS, Ground Advantage, to the publisher.
