I’ve mentioned elsewhere, how I was (and still am) obsessed with last man on earth films.  One of my favorite books was “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson and it was the source material for the Will Smith movie of the same name, “The Last Man on Earth” with Vincent Price and probably my favorite of the three “The Omega Man”.

Charlton Heston was the sole survivor with immunity after a worldwide plague and Anthony Zerbe plays his nemesis, Matthias.  Anthony Zerbe is a great character actor and has appeared in countless memorable roles.  But this shot of him on Neville’s (Heston’s) balcony, having gotten into his home, hits me just as hard as when the saw a film as a kid. 

He was a creepy soft-spoken cult-leader villain stuck in my childhood brain.  I’m reluctant to watch the movie again out of fear that it won’t hold up.  Sometimes it’s best to let the VCR in your brain play on loop.
